Mental Health Occupational Therapist
Amanda (pronouns she/her/hers) is an Approved Mental Health Occupational Therapist (OT) specialising in providing psychological and counselling interventions to young people aged 13-24 experiencing psychological or emotional difficulties. Her focus is working with young people to find better ways to deal with distress and support their development of self-identity. Adolescence is a time of heightened stress and Amanda is passionate about reducing the impact of mental illness on the transition into adulthood and subsequent adult life.
Amanda is trained in a variety of evidence-based psychological practices including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) which she uses to address unhelpful thoughts and behaviours that may be contributing to distress. Amanda supports young people to self-manage their symptoms through sensory modulation techniques. She develops individualised sensory strategies with her clients to support young people to become more regulated so that they can do what they need or want to do each day.
Amanda holds a Masters in Occupational Therapy Studies and has worked within the public and private mental health sector in Western Australia delivering individualised, evidence-based, psychological interventions to young people with complex presentations. Amanda also has a background in teaching mental health units to students of Occupational Therapy at Curtin University. Prior to living in Western Australia, Amanda was actively involved in working with refugees and asylum seeker families in Queensland. She developed an occupational therapy program for asylum seeker children in detention and worked on a project that contributed to the Australian Human Rights Commission’s National Inquiry into Children in Detention (2014).
Amanda is a current member of Occupational Therapy Australia and is registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). She is a registered Medicare Provider for the Better Access to Mental Health Program.
