Blending science and creativity to inspire change
Cristy Burne, AKA the Creativity Queen, is an award-winning internationally published children’s author and journalist working on the intersection of story, science, technology and creativity.
Cristy’s work covers six countries, three degrees, and jobs that include patent translating, magazine editing and stints at CERN (home of the Large Hadron Collider!), Questacon (as part of a science circus!), and in a ute (as a garbage analyst!). She has also bungee-jumped, sky-dived, back-packed and (accidentally) exploded sewage on her neighbour.
Cristy’s message of courageous learning and creative thinking is experiential, exciting, engaging, inspiring and FUN. A speaker for more than 20 years, Cristy uses her platform as a science writer and children’s author to empower audiences of all ages to think critically and creatively.
Cristy’s books have been published internationally and recognised in the WA Premier’s Book Awards, the Speech Pathology Australia Book of the Year, the Wilderness Society’s Environment Prize, the WA Young Reader’s Book Awards, and the Children’s Book Council of Australia Book of the Year awards.
“Cristy Burne visited our school to celebrate Book and Science Week. From start to finish, Cristy captivated and engaged our students with her dynamic approach and infectious enthusiasm for science and writing.
Her sessions were both enlightening and entertaining, as she shared valuable insights, personal experiences, and practical writing tips. Cristy’s ability to spark curiosity and excitement was evident, and she had our students laughing, asking questions, and eagerly wanting more.
The positive impact of her visit was clear, and we are already looking forward to the opportunity to welcome Cristy back to our school in the near future.” Teacher Librarian
“Kids were talking about it all day. I was very impressed how our normally disengaged students were actively involved in all your presentations especially the writing with year 5 and 6’s.” Vice Principal
“Great incursion! I think I enjoyed it more than the kids!” Teacher
“Hilarious and very entertaining!” Teacher
“I had teachers returning children’s feedback sheets from your sessions (THE NEXT DAY!!!!) and letting me know kids in the playground had come up to them and said how good you were. We will definitely be asking you back in the future.” School librarian
“Cristy was so so amazing! She is my new hero and role model.” Teacher
“Thankyou again for visiting last week!! The kids are still talking about you. Not only did you inspire the students, you inspired the staff as well – they are fighting over who gets to borrow your books next.” Teacher
